I was wondering if using sheets of cork to make accents rings in between cork rings be a problem. I was thinking of the darker colored sheets that are sold at stationary stores.
Thanks Fernando Re: Cork Sheets

Go to an Automotive store (Autozone, etc.) and get the rolled up cork gasket material. I think you get 1/8" thick, 12" wide and 6' long for around $5.95. I've been doing it for 2 years now. Don't bother to cut it round. Just cut 1.5" squares, put your hole in the center, glue between the cork rings and turn it down in the lathe.

Lowe's has rolls of sheet cork as well as packages pf cork. The cork in the package is about 3/16" X 12' x 12". As Phil mentioned, just cut it up into 1.5" squares and drill a hole in it or use a gasket punch to cut a circle. It glues up well and makes a nice looking fore/rear grip.
I like to glue them up into blocks using about 8 thicknesses of cork material using Titebond II of 90 min epoxy. Stan Re: Cork Sheets

I use the stuff from the autoparts stores as well. I like the little combo packs with 12" x 12" sheets of several types of gasket materials. The rubberized cork and the dark gray fiberous gasket materials make great trim rings. The tan fiberous gasket stuff isn't very robust though.
You can also get bulk cork and rubberized cork sheets in various thicknesses at McMaster Carr. One roll is enough for about 2 lifetimes. Erik Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
