dear rodbuilders,
I'm still looking at possible fly rod blanks. 8'6" two piece for steelhead/salmon... so far i've found this rainshadow blank: RXF866 8'6" 2 6 4.5 .365 but don't know if it has the power to handle strong fish. and this loomis blank sounds intriguing tho would perfer it in a two piece blank... FR968-3SG Length: 8' Line: 8 Pieces: 3 Small Grip link here: [www.iflyshop.com] can anyone recommend an equivalent blank not exceeding 8'6" thanks! mforrest Re: still pondering 2 piece fly rod blanks...

The Rainshadow blank you mention is more then adaquate for salmon here in the Northwest, at least for coho and chum. Probably work well as a Winter run steelhead rod too. Only suggestion I might have is to move up to a 9 or 10 foot rod in the same weight. Re: still pondering 2 piece fly rod blanks...

How about St. Croix 3S86MF2? ...6-12lb. line rating
or 2C86MF2 . There is a step up to the medium heavy if you need that, also. Rich Garbowski Richard's Rod & Reel info@rodreel.com Re: still pondering 2 piece fly rod blanks...

Sorry, those I listed are steelhead/salmon blank listing usually for spin or plugging. I have no idea how they'de work for fly casing, though maybe a possibility. For 8 wt. line?? perhaps. The 2S86MF2 has a .485 butt and a 4.5 tip.
