Access/new site rules?

My husband, Putter, hasn't been able to post a reply on any posts since Friday night. He tried to bring this to your attention by using another name; the post was deleted and nothing has been corrected.
When he posts a reply and clicks on the "POST" button, the following comes up on the next screen:

The name you entered is already registered by another user. If you are that user, please login. Otherwise, please use another name.

He can't register; the site doesn't allow his password. He's only used one password anywhere that he's needed one and can't figure out what is going on...

1. Site rules say you don't need to register to post; just have to use your real name and email address-this is being followed, yet it tells him he has to register????

2. Why can't he register??? Using his real name and email???

Peggy
See string below on Editing your user... He may have to have it cancelled and re-register. It's a "feature" I suppose.

Peggy, the truth is that we were afraid to let your husband anywhere near this new site since we were afraid he might try and marbleize it. ha

Peggy, get Putter to email Ian Scott or Tom K. I had a similar thing happen on the change over not as bad though, Ian deleted the old registration I re-registered and the board has to put up with me again.

Peggy,

This new forum software will require a bit of work to get where we want it. Have Randy try again tomorrow and see if he can re-register. Or if he prefers, don't register, just use the site as was done before this upgrade was made. Of course, there are some viewing options Randy won't have unless he does register.

Tom , you mentioned that he will have better veiwing if he regesters ..I thought I read that you were doing away with the regestration ?? I can't find the post I'm refering to when I say that I read it. I'm currently signed in , is that the feature you plan on getting rid of ?? I'm confused now. Thanks John

That's the problem, he can't even post a reply-it says that there's another user with that name and he has to log-in. He can't log-in without a password-viscious circle...

I would like to get rid of the registration feature, but this particular upgrade and version may not allow that. In other words, if you dump the registration feature, there may not be any way to get the threaded option view and "mark all read" feature.

If we can keep those options without registration, then I'll be only too happy to dump it. If not, then we'll have to go another route. Currently the registration box now only has a window for your name, instead of both user and real names. That should eliminate the confusion.

Peggy,

One you register, you can't get back in with the same name or email address. We'll have to delete Randy's original registration and let him start fresh.

I had the same problem, and checked my e-mail. There should be a link that when clicked takes you back to rodbuilding.org and tells you your account is now active. Full speed ahead from there.
