Water-Break-Free Tool

The tool presented in the current RodMaker Magazine really works well!

Built one this evening and decided to make the length about 9.75 inches and mount it in a 4 inch handle made of a piece of 1 inch dowel, rather than use it in the drill.

The thinking was to also use it as a large alcohol swab to clean the reel seat prior to the ScotchBrite stage. Several layers of paper towel or several layers of an old T shirt works well for the alcohol swabbing part.

Great tool. Thanks to Tom & Buddy Owens for the idea.

Stan

I agree 100%. This may turn out to be one of the most useful things in my shop. I made two. One holds a piece of scotchbrite and the other holds a small scrap of sponge. I use the one with the sponge to clean the inside with alcohol and then follow that with the one with scotchbrite to create a water break free surface. A great idea. I got my subscription price for Rodmaker back with just that one tool idea. My only problem is that I can't figure out why I didn't think of this myself!

Shawn,

I'll begin to make another tool tomorrow for sponge use. Good idea.

Think I'll try cutting a slot in a piece of 1/2 inch stainless steel tubing found in the garage - probably take 'til New Year to cut the slot in the SS!

I don't have my issue yet, but are you guys talking about a tool that holds things like sandpaper kind of like cleaning a gun barrel? If so I have been making that from scrap pices of blank. I just slice in the middle with a razzor blade ( very carefully )

Bill, the tools is similar to a barrel cleaning tool, as far as it's functioning.

It seems very useful to rodbuilders for prepping reel seats, etc.

Made a second one today for denatured alcohol pre-cleaning.

They all go out at the same time. They're due on the 28th of December. Presorted mail moves sporadically.
