Guys, I really do not like everything about this new software. We're going to start making changes to get it back to the original style as soon as possible. At least in appearance.

You do not need to register or log in. That feature will be removed. The private messaging option will also be removed. You will still need to use your first and last name and your email address cannot be hidden. It must be valid and in place.

I'm trying to learn more about how the site works and will inform you of how to get the threaded view back in place once I figure it out myself. Please ease up on the emails, I can only answer so many and do not have all the answers to this new software yet. I'll figure things out and explain them as soon as I'm able. Thanks.

Tom Kirkman

Glad to hear that, I too don't really care for the new software. It really lost the "feel" that not only was comfortable to those of us who've been here for a while, but it became very "sterile" and has an unfriendly appearance from what I have been told. I'm sure the end result will be top shelf.

One of the problems we have is that as the Phorum software is updated, they eventually stop supporting the older versions, so some upgrading is inevitable. I would have liked to stay with exactly what we had before but that wasn't possible. But we'll try to get this place looking as it did before as much as we can. A few of the new features will be welcomed, but others will get cannned as soon as possible. Hopefully in a few days we'll have something that is at least as good as what we had before with a few better methods for searching and getting back into older message pages.

Most significant software changes are not welcomed by the users. When I first migrated from Windows 1.1 to 3.0, I hated it. Same thing happened with each successive upgrade, even though the upgrades were functionally better. I've been through the same thing with a lot of different software packages.

The point is that once someone gets comfortable with how it looks on the screen, almost any change is not only glaring, but often condemned. But after a while, most people forget what the old version actually looked like and why they liked it better. It soundslike there are some features in this new version that need to be changed and probably will be, but if the appearance doesn't change, I would bet that in a week, hardly anyone will care or remember for sure what it was that made the previous version more appealing. What's really important is that the forum works, however it happens to look.

I think it is great. We shouldn't resist change.

Spencer is right , I go through software changes several times a year in the equipment that I service. I'm sure everyone will get aclimated to it . Just remember the first time that you visited this board , you had to learn the ropes , just think of it as doing it again . John
