Hi folks. How do you guys know just how mutch to extend the layout marks on a blank with a "strong" taper? What I ment was over the foregrip it´s ok but where the blank dia. is thinner theres not enough space between the marks for the same amount of thread. Hope you get the picture since I´m no language genius, THANKS Kim Re: buttwrap layout?

Kim, If you are doing a square wrap (threads crossing at right angles) then you want the distance between centres to equal the circumference of the rod. Where do you measure the circumference? Work out how long you want to make the wrap, then measure the circumference at both the start and end of the wrap. Use the longer measurement as the distance between centres at the tip (thin) end of the rod. Use the shorter measurement as the distance between centres at the butt (thick) end of the rod. Adjust all the intermediate centre distances so there is a gradual transition. The end result is that the pattern is elongated at one end, and compressed at the other. That is unavoidable, but all the threads should fit in. Regards Dave Boyle www.visualwrap.com Re: buttwrap layout?

Kim, Do exactly as Dave says. But to find exactly how long your wrap will be, measure the circumference where you would like the middle to be. Use that distance to approximate the centers of your design. This will give you the average distance between centers. If you want say 5 centers then measure from your starting point out towards the tip 5 times that middle circumference distance and that will tell you exactly where the wrap will end. That's where you should measure the circumference for the tip end of your wrap. Now take a lined sheet of lined paper with a margin line on it. Measure and draw a line equal to the circumference of the butt end of the wrap from the margin of the paper to the right side of the paper. If you are using 5 (or whatever number of centers) count down 5 lines on the paper and draw a second line starting from the margin. The length of this second line should be equal to the length of the circumference at the tip end of your wrap. You should now have two lines starting at the margin. The top line is the length of the butt circumference. The second line is 5 lines down and the length of the tip circumference. Notice the bottom line is shorter than the top line. Take a straight edge and draw a line connecting the ends of these two lines. The length of the 5th line is the distance your 1st center should be from the butt end of your rod. Move up to the 4th line and this distance should be the distance from the 1st center to the second. Move to the third line and this is the distance from the 2nd center to the 3rd etc. If this doesn't make sense shoot me an e-mail and I'll try to make it more clear.
