Spiral wrap E600PT ?

OK,
I am trying my first spiral wrap. I have read everything and have the magazines but I am having trouble with the Butt Guide distance from the reel face.
I am trying the O'Quinn method on a bass rod.I can't get the line off the bottom of the guide at 15 inches. Ralph says no less.Is it ok for it to ride in the bottom?
This is with a Quantum Energy E600PT 7ft MH ST Croix.
Anyone twisted this one up? If so what distance did you end up with.
Thanks, Mike

I'm definately not an expert on the O'quinn method but it sounds like you might need to drop the size of your first guide. I normally use a 12mm for the first guide on low profile reels such as the Energy and a 16mm for the first guide on round baitcasters. Hope this helps.

Thanks Nathan,
Are you saying drop a size and move it closer?
Lucky I live on a lake.I am headed outside right now to test where I have it at. 16inches.

well,
at 15 inches it cast a country mile with a DD22 3/4 crankbait.
I switched to the lightest crankbait I have and it worked real well too.
I had no bunching of the line that I could tell.I made about 20 casts.
not very scientific but a start for a newbe.
any other help would be very needy.I have two more to build soon.
Thanks,Mike

I think you're on the right track. Use the hardest pulling crankbait you have and make sure no line piling occurs. If not, proceed with wrapping.
