Hey there, Has anybody who has read this made or used a fly rod that had a removable fighting butt and or gimble. I am wanting to build a 12 wt. fly rod for a friend in Costa Rica. He captains an offshore boat so I'd like it to have a gimble mount but would like to make the gimble interchangeable with a regular fighting butt. This way it could be used comfortably in a more traditional (flats fishing) setting. Has anyone done this or seen this done. Has anyone used the removable fighting butts from REC? Do they stay secure while fighting a big fish? Do they stay secure after a number of years of exposure to saltwater? Thanks for any help. This would not be hard at all to do. I use the Fuji seats and the quick-lock hoods and use them in reverse as integral fighting butts. They just screw on or off. Make two - one for a gimbal and one for a mushroom cap and you have both types and can swap either in seconds. No reason you couldn't do this with the fighting butt hardware for any other seat as well. Just get a second set of the hardware and have at it. ..............
