This is a question me and one of my friends have ponered for a while...how do you make a good looking single trim wrap? There no problem with a 3 or so turn trim, just a single one. Any suggestions?? ~Don~ Re: Single Trim Wrap

You insert the tag end of a trim thread under the main guide wrap when you start. Then you also lay in with some tape a tie off loop that will be used later on the trim wrap. Finish the guide wrap as usual. Now make a single revolution around the blank with your trim thread and insert the end into the tie off loop you put in the regular guide wrap and pull it through and trim it off. Hope I explained this so you can understand it. Re: Single Trim Wrap

Kevin's method and a couple of other methods for single or "drop in" wraps are thouroughly explained in pictures and text in Dale Clemens book "Advanced Custon Rod Building". The book is probably available through one or more of the sponsors on the left. One neat thing about this technique is that one, two or more made be made in the same wrap creating a very distinct attractive look. Re: Single Trim Wrap

The advice given is good. I want to add that if you are using regular nylon without CP (black being the exception) you will see the tag ends under the wraps, so plan accordingly. Re: Single Trim Wrap

When you pull your loop, press down tightly on the wrap to keep the trim thread from moving from side to side. I like to go past the origination point by about an 1/8th of a turn, then pull the thread with the loop. You then can press tightly with a fingernail and pull the tag end & make the two ends of the wrap meet precisely with no gaps or overlaps. Try to make all the starting points directly in line with the guide feet (on the bottom of the blank) on a spinning or fly rod so the junction is not seen and opposite the guide on casting rods if spiral wrap is not used. When setting up the loop don't forget to bring the tag ends out from under the main wraps after about 7-8 turns, otherwise, you won't be able to pull the loop without breaking it. Single trim wraps are a beautiful addition to your work. Dark thread as a single thread doesn't work when used with a dark wrap, it just disappears, metallic or white thread is very effective. You'll find that making your "single" trim wraps with two turns of thread makes a more definitive appearance & looks as it is only one thread if packed tightly.
