When building a rod I use Flex Coat high build on my wraps. I keep seeing posts on folks doing one coat, letting it dry, and then putting a second coat on.

I am just curious if there is a benefit to this?

When I epoxy my wraps I always get a nice even smooth finish with no problems. Once I get the epoxy on the wrap I use an alcohol torch to bust any bubbles. This also thins the epoxy which makes it penetratye the wraps.

If you're getting good results now, there is no reason to change. Due to differences in finish viscosity, many find that they cannot apply enough finish in one application to get the depth they desire. Thus, they use multiple coats. If you can do it in one, and get the depth and look you want, then stick with it.

Thanks for the information. I thought after 12 years of building I better find out if I was missing out on something. I find it easy with Flex Coat High Build, however it takes a while and the results are very nice.

It is like a custom car paint job. The more clear put on the more depth it has. You could try a second coat and see if you like it better then just one. Will not hurt

I also am a one coat guy. I could never see the need for a second when excellent results are obtained with just one coat. If it works for you, keep on keeping on, as I never saw the point in fixing something that ain't broken.
