Starter List

Is there a starter list somewhere? I've done a search and can't seem to find one. I'm talking about the small stuff, like apoxy, finishing kits, thread, tape, small tools, ect..

I know this is probably a stupid question but that's what beginners do.

If you are just starting and don't have ANYTHING, I think most everything you really need comes in various "starter kits", available from Mudhole or various sponsors. This is how I started. From there I went out and bought things I found would make life easier. My only regret is buying two Gudebrod thread sets, a bunch of different colors in size A and C. I've only used like 5 colors out of the whole bunch and many I'm sure I'll probably never use. The rest I had to go out and buy seperately.

Bill,

I only build about half a dozen rods a year but I was just sitting here looking at how little basic "stuff" you need. Rod Bond, epoxy of choice, thread, (I've got a big roll of black and brown,) good masking tape, elastic thread, mixing cups, razor blades, paint brushes and drywall joint tape. I've ended up accumulating bushings, cork, guides, handles and a lot of odds and ends but could get by without most of it if I had to.

My downfall has been blanks, I keep finding new ones that I just have to have, now enough to last me years.

you will need some sort of dryer, to spin the rod unless, like me, you choose to watch tv and spin it BY HAND untill you are SURE that the wraps have dried. My drill lathe setup is too fast and causes the epoxy to creep up the frames. other than that, really not much. What you listed is a good start, the rest makes itself known at 11 p.m. and brings you to a sudden halt in progress.
