I just recieved a 12mm exposed blank reel seat that is probably one millimeter too large. Can I use arbors or masking tape to shim the reel seat. Has anyone done this with success. I am worried the reel seat might break free after some use on salmon. I am anxious to start on this rod. Would hate to have to wait for smaller reel seat by mail. Re: reel seat problem

Hate to say it, but think you are better getting another reel seat. You can shim it along the top of the blank so it pushes down and doesn't leave a bunch of space where the exposed area is. I've had the same exact problem, just ordered the better reel seat and kept this one for different rods. I'm happier knowing everything is fitting as it should.
