Hi everybody I was wondering if you could give me some info on these blanks, I am really considering building a 9'6" 8 wt for the salt and steelhead. Do these blanks make a good rod. I also want to thank you all for making such a wonderfull and informative site. Thanks pat Re: st croix scv

They're truly outstanding blanks. Although for the money difference, I prefer the SCIV models. ..................... Re: st croix scv

I would second Tom's opinion. I built an SCV 4 wt.(CC's @ 5.0 but that's another story) and I love it, but...after trying the new SCIVs I don't think it's worth the extra(almost double) money. The new SCIVs are made on the same mandrel with the same taper and since I've built 6 other of the older SCIVs and love them, I was really knocked out by the new ones. You really can't lose either way, it's only money. Kim Re: st croix scv

Actually, the SCIV is anything but 1/2 the price of the SCV,at least based on the prices listed on St Croix's website. There really isn't a huge price difference(only $40 or so) between the SCIV and SCV's now. The 4pc 9ft6 8wt SCV is listed at $240,while the 4pc 9ft6 8wt SCIV is $200. For a steelhead rod,I would probably go with the SCV seeing it is a faster and lighter blank(always a nice thing in a long, heavy line weight rod when you are making hundreds of casts each day throwing large flies or heavy sinking heads).
