What is the best and SAFEST tool to use to cut handles off of scrap graphite rods. I have lots of the discarded rods (100+) Thanks in advance, Ron Re: Cutting graphite blanks

A cut-off wheel in a grinder or Dremel tool. Wear safety glasses before you even think about getting started. .......... Re: Cutting graphite blanks

Agree the Dremel works great for this, and spend the extra money for the reinforced cut off wheels, not the very brittle unreinforced ones. Those things break easily and even with glasses, they sting your hand when the pieces fly roff. You get one guess at how I know this. Re: Cutting graphite blanks

Where you make the cut, wind a couple turns of masking tape to help with a cleamer cut. Re: Cutting graphite blanks

Ron, Dremel tool with cutting wheel if you are doing it. If your marbel heads are doing it I might suggest a butter knife wrapped in duct tape. I used to wear safety glasses, now I went to a full face sheild because the graphite slivers go flying everywear. Good luck, Buzz Re: Cutting graphite blanks

Hello Ron and All Please consider wearing a good face mask. Graphite dust is not good for your airways. Even if you do the cutting with your dust collector on you will have Graphite partilcles in the air. If your cutting allot of them at one time there will be quite a lot of not good stuff in the air your breathing. The safest (for breathing) way that I have found to cut a graphite blank is using a triangular file by hand. Regards Joe Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
