Wood Handle/Epoxy Problem

Hello Everyone, I epoxied a custom made wooden handle on a fly rod blank, including the reel seat and winding check. Everything was OK until I attached the other two pieces. Gave it a waggle and heard some creaking. Apparently, I have an air gap between the blank and wooden handle near the top of the handle. My question is how to fill the gap with epoxy considering I already have the winding check on? I know on cork handles that people use syringes to inject epoxy thru the cork to the blank. Is there a way to do it with a wooden handle? I might have to take the winding check off and use a syringe between the blank and the top of the wooden handle. If so, what would I use to take the winding check (nickle/silver) and how would I do it without ruining it. Thanks in Advance, Russ Re: Wood Handle/Epoxy Problem

Russ, I don't epoxy my checks to my grips partly for this reason. I wait until I have the thread wraps in front of the check and then let the finish epoxy be my boding epoxy. It will suck back into the winding check more than enough to hold it in place. I would take a fine razor blade aroud the base of the check to remove it. Unless you really gooped the epoxy into it, you should be able to carefully pop it loose. Any marks on the wood can likely be buffed off carefully. Thanks, Rick Re: Wood Handle/Epoxy Problem

Can't help you on the winding check but when you get ready to glue I would use rod finish as it is much thinner and you will be able to get more in the area you want than a thicker epoxy glue.Jesse Re: Wood Handle/Epoxy Problem

Thanks Rick, will try your advice. Jesse, what would you use to apply the rod finish into the top of the handle ( a syringe or brush etc..)? Russ locating a part for a Heddon rod

Recently I came into possession of a Heddon Trail Blazer #7676, spin/fly rod, 7'3", weight 7 fly line. It is a four pc.pac rod. My problem is the third section of the rod is missing and I would like to obtain a replacement. I believe Heddon is out of business now as I get no response on the net. Any information in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Del Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
