Folks,

I want to get a video or book to teach a beginner how to cast and use a flyrod.

What videos do you recommend?

What books do you recommend?

Thanks in advance.
Ron

It's not just for casting, but the Curtis Creek Manifesto is a great read and introduction to flyfishing.

to top that off, it's only $7.95 AND it's a cartoon!

I suggest you check www.hamiltonbook.com and look through what they have available at the time. I found several of Lefty Kreh's books among many other fine fly fishing titles, including the Orvis Encyclopedia at a HUGE discount. Some titles lower than 50% off at times. I have purchsed some with "Shelf Wear" and had to struggle to find what they were referring to as wear! The Orvis book I refer to can't be beaten for it's content let alone the price. I hope this helps. I have a couple of older videos that is very good as well. Drop me an email, I will look for them for you.

Ron , check out this site that Andy Dear recomended an an earlier post . [www.sexyloops.com] . I looked thruogh it and it seemed to have alot of info on casting tech. There are some vido clips available for down load , but I still live with dial up , so I didn't check them out . The site looked very informative to a beginner .

One of the best videos I've seen on the subject is Joan Wulff's "Dynamics of Flycasting" produced by FlyRod & Reel. It's not extremely technical, but very enjoyable to watch and tons of good info for the beginner and intermediate caster.

G'day Ron,
I took up fly casting my self within the last 12 months, a mate of mine lent me his video "Lefty Kreh's Fly Casting Techniques" , a great way to start i reckon.
It was shot in the early eighties , judging by the hair cuts and the style of the clothes on the two kids he helps learn to fly cast in it, but i rate it as top notch as far as instructional video's go.
I hope this may help you, good luck finding it.
Regards Geoff Roberts

Ron,
Woops, look for " Fly Casting with Lefty Kreh" , I just did a search on Google.com and found it.
Lefty talks all about his 5 principles of fly casting which are very helpfull and fly casting is just about impossible without them.
Good Luck
Geoff
