I'm a little confused as to the sizes of guides. When fuji mentions their guide sizes as 6, 7, 8, etc. are they talking about the actual hole size of the guide or an outside diameter of some sort. I'm building a 9', 5 wt., sage, vps light fly rod and am considering SIC one foot guides and do not want the holes too large. I will need to get these over the internet and will not be able to see them first hand for sizes. Also the smallest tip size I have found so far is 4.0 in the SIC series. Does anyone know if they make a 3.5? Any good suggestions for matching hook keeper, winding check and reel seat hardware to the guides? Thanks. Re: Fuji guide sizes

It's the inner diameter of the stamped frame that the insert goes in. You should be able to get these materials in matching colors from most sponsors on the left. I use Pac Bay for most of my rods; light freshwater walleye fishing. They have gold, silver, black, and a titanium color (kind of a flat silver look). Not sure on the winding check color, though. Or the 3.5 without looking. I know I've got one 3.5 sized (tube) tip in black so they must be available somewhere. Putter Re: Fuji guide sizes

Buy a set of inexpensive BNLG guides and use those as reference. When I 1st started building I did the same with guides, reel seats, and a few other parts. I used to pick parts that fit, then I would look at sizes for ordering or picking from the stock I had on hand. Ferrules were another item that I bought one of each for fitting / sizing.
