If the action, length, power, etc., meet your requirements, then use whatever blank you wish. Blanks are all made pretty much the same way and do the same thing. There is nothing technically different between a fly, casting, float, spin or any other type blank. You just want to make sure the characteristics of the blank you're looking at match well with what you want to do.

When using a fly blank for spinning, do you match the fly line weight to the lure weight. As an example, a #2 fly line weighs 3/16 ounces. Is that the correct blank if I were using primarily 3/16 ounce jigs?

As far as I under stand it the 2 goes over the 16. 16 Is always the denominator. So you would have 2/16 or reduced1/8 oz

I'd have to consult the chart, but I think a 2 wt fly line at 30 feet weighs closer to 1/8th ounce, not 3/16. But other than that you're on the right track.

The bulk of the rods I have wrapped have been 4, 5 and 6 weight flyrod blanks into spinning rods. I have found them to be great ultralight rods for float tubing as long as you use a shorter rear grip. During the Rainbow spawn here in MT, they are perfect for flicking #6 and #8 buggers out instead of dealing with a backcast during combat fishing conditions. One bit of advice is to consider using a braided line w/ a mono or flouro leader. I initially had hookset troubles because of the combination of the rod flex and pure mono stretch. Braided line cured that quickly.

Wrapping this way usually voids the blank warranty but it hasn't been a problem for me yet.
