Beautiful rod machine

I don't know who it is or how they did it, but the photos on the site here of of the slick rod wrapping machine are great. I'd like to know more about the parts and about what the cost to make such a thing would be.

This is great ... here's a quote from the maker:

I made my wrapper from aluminum found at the scrape yard. All pulleys were turned out of flat stock. The beds are 7 ft. long...can be butted together for a rod up to 13 ft. long. I had enought material left that I also made a dedicated dryer. Total cost for both pieces was $257.00...not counting my time.

Ron
You must live near a "high end scrap yard" ! Just joking. You did beautiful work putting that wrapper together.

Ken ... wasn't me and I was just quoting what the maker had on one of the photos.

I wish I could do that kind of work ... really nice.

I like the 4 jaw self centering chuck. .. must be the most expesive item on the unit.

My question is, can he get me some of that track from the scrapyard? Or at least give me the name of the manufacturer. Looks like some nice track and I am getting ready to build my own wrapper...

That machine was made by Doug Cox. We're going to have a story and more photos of it in a near future issue of RodMaker. Hopefully it will give everyone additional ideas for making their own power wrapper.

80/20's part number is 1530. You are probably looking at $15.00 + plus per foot getting to you door. It weighs approx. 3 pounds per foot.
