I am using my first spool of NCP thread and am having some trouble with it. First the thread seems to be stuck together ever so slightly. As I pull the thread from the spool it frays leaving a very fuzzy thread. Way too fuzzy to be able to get a good finish over. I have pulled out most of the spool now hoping it would go away. No luck. Is this common for NCP thread? What possiably could have caused it? If you use a NCP style thread what brand do you use? Thanks, Re: NCP thread problems

No, it's not at all common. Age, light, heat, mildew or something has gotten to your thread. Save a headache, toss it out and get a fresh spool. ......... Re: NCP thread problems

I've had new spools of Rice thread do this on me twice. I've been able to flame the guide wraps I've used this on and gotten by with it. I shoulda sent it back, though. Two one ounce spools; I'll be flaming a bunch of guide wraps, now!!! Putter Re: NCP thread problems

Kurt, I have spools of Gudebrod thread that are at least 15 years old and are as good as new. However, I recently bought a spool of #6778 (lemon yellow) that did the same thing as yours. I took it back and got a new spool. That is the first failure in about 20 years of rod building. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
