Sharpie between coats of finish

I wrapped chrome guides with black thread. I burnished well and the wraps were tight, but when I applied the first coat of LS Supreme, I noticed that I could see the chrome guide foot through a couple of the wraps. (minor, but noticeable to me) Can I take a black sharpie permanent marker and cover the spots where the chrome shows through and then apply the second coat of LS Supreme? Will the ink affect the adhesion of the epoxy or cause some adverse reaction? Thanks, Tim Re: Sharpie between coats of finish

That's cheating, but it's a process that will work fairly well. It shouldn't affect the next coat of finish but make sure it's a permanent market that won't be undermined ro smeared by the epoxy. Most won't be, but there are some ringers out there. ......... Re: Sharpie between coats of finish

I haven't used the product yet, but what about making the finish coat with Klass Kote in black? Of course, by the time you order the stuff and receive it, you could have easily cut off and rewrapped that guide without gaps. Re: Sharpie between coats of finish

In the past I have used a sharpie industrial marker(super peranent) to color guide feet before wrapping.I do this especially on black feet that were filed to dress them therefor leaving no shiny spots on the foot. i dont see why you couldnt use a colored sharpie to match to color of the foot to the thread on silver frame guides. The only problem i forsee with the touch up after the first coat is the sharpie will be a different shade of black then the thread(learned this firt hand) Fred Re: Sharpie between coats of finish

Steve. Let me know if you try the black Klass Kote. I have been using 2 coats of varnish and 1 coat of K-K on top of late. There is no build up to speak of. The varnish seems to control the fuzzies better and preserves a little more of the thread color. I am thinking 2 coats of varnish, 1 coat of black K-K, and one coat of clear K-K for the ultimate finish. I have trouble with the shiny guides showing through 3/0 silk, to the point I am using only 2/0. Back to topic, does varnish eat up a sharpie coat on a guide? Re: Sharpie between coats of finish

I have read here that you should coat the sharpie with CP so it does not bleed Re: Sharpie between coats of finish

Mix a little epoxy with black TAP pigment , touch up the "bad" spots , then re-coat the whole thing , You'll never see it . JD Re: Sharpie between coats of finish

I would try Black Winsor and Newton Ink. I use the silver for my inscriptions and it dries fast, can be finished directly over with Flex Coat within 5 minutes of application, and can be cleaned up with water. Try pearl paint's website to order the inks. HTH, Lou Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
