I would like to extend the lenght of a rod that I currently own from 11 ft 3 in to 12 ft 6 in . The rod currently has a 7 ft 6in tip and a 4 ft straight graphite butt section with a tip over furell. I would like to keep the weight to a minimum and will use cork tape on the grip to cover the joint. Also need recommendation on the best guides to use for braid on a 12 ft surf rod. Currently the rod has a 50 mm stripper guide and 4 other guides and tip. Would like something other that low riders unless this is the only reasonable choice. Thanks and sorry I forgot the last name on the first try to post. Re: Surf Rod Modification

I like to oversleeve as it is stronger. But if you have a blank with a pretty hefty butt and good wall thickness you might be able to get away with an insert of the length you need to get the extra inches you need. By the way, I think you need a few more guides on that rod. 5 guides on an 11 foot rod does not seem like enough and too few can be hard on both the line and the blank.
