I was in a craft store today. They had a nice looking thread under the name Sulky. They said it was rayon. It seemed like it was as "hard" regular thread and wasn't fuzzy. It seems like a good thread for wrapping guides or decorative wraps. Anyone ever tried it? Re: Thread question

Many threads (pun) have been posted here on the use of Sulky metallic thread, their 142 7000 series. Most comments, including mine, have been very positive. Some of their other metallics are flat and brittle, not good. I've not tried their regular threads and have not seen much posted. Possibly they are silicone coated (not good, fish eyes), I'd like to know. Re: Thread question

I don't think they are coated as I have not had any problems with my wraps, but I haven't stress tested them much either. Have just used it on light and mid light powered freshwater rods so far. Re: Thread question

I use Sulky rayon every so often. It works easily and takes finish just fine. It isn't as strong as nylon, based on my own stress testing (wrapping around fingers and pulling until it breaks) but it isn't weak enough that I worry about it, at least on medium freshwater rods. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
