10ft 10wt blank options

I have someone who wants me to build them a 10wt,but I'm not sure what blanks are out there(if any) that fit the description and would be under $200US(preferably).

He already has a 6wt and a 8wt and wants a 10wt for river fishing for chum and chinook salmon. He has never fished a 10wt before but he is thinking of a 10ft long blank to be used as a single hander(a lot of 10wt rod to handle like that).I will probably try to convince him to go 9ft unless he is interested in the idea of a switch rod(like the 10ft 10wt FT's that Bob Meiser has spoken highly of recently),but if he insists on the 10ft I am just wondering what options there are and which would best fit his needs?

I immediately thought of the 4pc10ft 10wt FT for him but he says he wants a medium action 3pc and I'm not sure who makes one(if anyone).Despite his request for a medium action blank,I can't help but think that the FT would still be a good match for what he wants as the 10ft models are more towards the medium fast side compared to the 9ft models, and Mr.Meiser has been using this blank for a while now under the same fishing conditions that this rod would be for.

Seeing as he doesn't have any experience with 10wts and wants a single hander I think he would be much better off with a 9ft rod and if he goes that route then I'm sure there are many more options(the 3pc 9ft 10wt Dan Craft SIG V comes to mind,as does the 9ft 10wt FT).

Anyways,I would appreciate any feedback on 3-4pc 9ft-10ft 10wt blanks out there for under $200US.

Thanks.

Tony , Rainshadow has a RXF9010-3 . If you could use a 2 piece there are a couple of others to look at . They are all listed on our website fishsticks4u.com we are also on the sponsor list. Good Luck . Robert

That worked ok, but the formating ran together. The "B" and "T" or the butt and tip sizes. Hope that helps.

Tony, I'm finishing a 10' 8 weight FT for steelheading. I built it as a "switcher" according to the report Bob Meiser posted some time ago. I have not fished it yet, but it has an AA of 60, and has the feel of a moderate action rod, so I think your customer would find the rod to his liking. It is hard to beat the price, too. The St. Croix 10'6" 9 weight is another blank I considered, however it is frequently described as a "beast." I'm not sure what that means, but it sounds like a rod that would wear you out.

Thanks for the replies.

The 10ft 10wt FT is definitely one of the ones I am considering(there aren't many 10ft 10wts out there that I can see),but I am somewhat concerned it will be a bit too much rod for him as a single hander since I don't think he has fished anything over a 9ft 8wt(the jump from a 9ft 8wt to a 10ft 10wt will certainly be noticable).

I've cast the ST Croix SCIV 3pc 10ft6 9wt(my brother in law's freind has one) and "beast" certainly does apply here.It definitely feels like a 10wt and it takes a strong arm to handle over a full day(I found it to bee too much rod for me),but it will throw some seriously heavy heads when needed.Compared to my 10ft 9wt GLX it was night and day. After casting the SCIV 1ft6 9wt over 1/2 a day and then switching back to my GLX,my GLX felt like casting a feather by comparison.
