Today, during my annual trek to Houston's Fishing Show, I got to see first hand the beautiful rods that St. Croix now has on the market. Since, I am a light tackle fisherman, I was very impressed with the SC IV rods. The man working the booth quickly showed me their rod blank catalogue and went through the whole series of blanks available. Equally helpful were the Allstar, G Loomis and PacBay distributors. I liked the PacBay blue water type guides and will use them on a rod I will build for a nephew. And while here, what blanks do you recommend for a tuna rod for 30 - 50 lb. line. This will be a standup rod. I spoke to a charter captain and he recommened that we bring our own custom made rods rather than use his that are loaded with 100 lb. line. Ellis, The SCIV fly rods and blanks are truly impressive, and I can tell you also from the demand for their blanks others seem to agree. We've been a dealer with St. Croix for about 5 years or better. As a blank distributor I am impressed with what is being offered in the higher end graphites including the SCV spinning and casting blanks. These make great, extremely light weight rods that are simply unbelievable. The Toronto Sport show results with the St. Croix reps. blew away the folks stopping by with their displays and their sales soared through the roof over the competition. A lot of it is to do with exceptional price points for high quality product, and vast experience in rod technology. They are truly one of the greatest rod companies known today. The folks at St. Croix are also interested anglers and truly helpful to both dealer and consumer. Rich Richard's Rod & Reel Re: New Fishing Tackle-New To Me

I'm currently making a Calstar Grafighter 765L for myself as a 50# tuna stick using Fugi LRSG guides. The 765XL is a great 40# rod as is the 700M which is 6" longer, better for casting bait. Re: New Fishing Tackle-New To Me

St. Croix does have an excellent product. I really like their fly and bass casting blanks. When it comes to heavy duty offshore and boat stuff though, I lean towards Calstar. It is serious equipment for serious fishing. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
