Thread and colors.

There are so many threads and colors I cant make up my mind... I used NCP thread on my first rod and it looks like paint.. What i want is something with more sparkle..
A size, dark or royal blue under wrap. metalic? and size A (black as possible) over wrap. Silver metalic or varigated trim bands. Whats a good combination?
Will no CP give it more "depth" ? I will be using LS supreme.
Whats your favorite combo for these colors? Any other unique ideas much appreciated.
12'3 Drum rod...
Thanks.. Greg

Greg --
Simply and honestly there are so many possible answers to your question that what you may want to do is make several "test wraps" with a silver underwrap / no color preserver and then a size A overwrap in dark blue or dark purple and theads from different manufacturers for the overwrap. The black might also benefit from a silver underwrap and show some "sparkle" as the silver may shine through -- but to the unknowing might also look as though you've left some "holidays" in packing the threads on the overwrap. Some manufacturer's threads (Robison-Anton is one) allow more of the underwrap to show through - some to the point that the thread almost looks like colored epoxy.
In reading over your post a couple of times .... If you wrap the dark blue under then a black over there is little chance that you will get any "sparkle" unless you go with a black metallic thread - in which case the dark blue underwrap on a black blank will disappear. On a matte (charcoal finish) blank the dark blue with no CP may again appear to be stained / colored epoxy. On a white blank that could be a very stunning effect. You have entered the "experiment zone" .

NCP will always look like dull paint. You need to use regular nylon. No CP on it will make it darken and go translucent, whereas CP will make it pretty much hold the color that it is on the spool!

If your really want add alot of sparkle you might try some
metalic hologram braid put out by gudebrod. The thread is
about one-eight inch wide and comes in several colors. I
have used the black, silver, blue, and pearl and like all of them
with the right colors to go with them. good luck

I like black with silver trim. I'm just finished with a fly rod like that and I think it looks sharp. The basics never let you down.
