I thought I had posted a Question about guides but have been gone for about 6 weeks so I will try again. Why in the world would anyone use the new Gold Cermet guides unless it is some rich guy wanting to show off? I am building a very fancy fly rod for charity @#$%& and thought I'll just put those new gold things on it. Then I looked at the price. I will stick to the SIC guids I always use for special( including my own personal fly rods ) rods because I have used them forever and they are wonderfu. Well I know I am old and crochity but do consider myself up with technology. Well let me know the justification Thanks, Old and Crochity Clyde Trainor Custom Angler Re: cost of guides

Have you seen the price on the Ruby guides that fuji makes? You could buy a car! I guess, if you can afford it, why not. Something I doubt I will ever know, but that's ok. Ray Re: cost of guides

As you climb the technology and quality ladder, you'll find a point where you can no longer justify the additional cost for the additional performance gain. I doubt you'll ever notice any performance gain with the Fuji Titanium Cermet guides (not any that you could measure with the human senses at least). But you do gain something else, although it's maybe not quite as tangible. The idea of having the very best, or something unique or rare is worth something to many people. There are a lot of cosmetic touches that we custom rod builders make on rods that probably don't make the rod perform any better. Same with some of the material or component technology. Some people just want it for the sake of having it. ................ Re: cost of guides

Never built a whole rod with the titanium cerments. But I have used the cerments for strippers and a couple of tops. I think they do offer some performance past the SIC. They are lighter and slicker. Nothing except the REC recoil tops come close weight to a cerment top. I am not very talented artistically, so I care more about performance than looks in my guide selection. I quite frequently mix types of guides. I got some cerments from the for sale section at about 1/2 of the then going rate. I am going to use some of the cerments on the tip section of light rods and the SIC on down. Re: cost of guides

I've built several including one for myself with the gold cermet guides and think they add a special touch to a special rod. Not something that I'd put on every rod. I can't afford the best car like a Rolls but I figured at least once I'd have the best guides. Would consider another if Fugi would make them in a heavier frame like they use to. Re: cost of guides

We have this discussion often on other sites I surf (river small mouth). I haven't met a smallie yet that need better than an Alconite, but the SiC's are a little lighter, the TiSiC's are lighter yet and the best answer is because I can. Compare it to a hobby like sprint car racing. Don't think you can build a rod that costs as much as a rebuilt engine. Or I collected antique racing motorcycles for a while. It's all a matter of perspective. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
