I just finished my second rod and I'm not happy with it. Every thing went togather fine ,and the finish is better than the first and the rod looks great. BUT under pressure the rod jerks left or right and the guides seem to turn to the side .I "spined " this one the same as the first and the first one looks bad but fishes great..The blank I used was a 2000 loomis #c-s785 that I got in a group of rods blanks that were given to me.I don't think that there is a fix for my rod problem so how do I remove the guides and clean up this rod to sprial wrap it.
Does the spine of a rod ever rotate around the rod ??[ Verses a straight line].

Before you go to all the trouble. I am
assuming this is a casting rod.

Check the tip tip real good for alignment.
Lowering the stuff on the tip may change the
moment of twist and help you out.

If you used a high V frame think about
exchanging the last three guides with fly
style guides. If the tip top is a V frame
high try lowering the ring with a different
style tip top. If all fails do a spiral wrap.

The spine is not a thing - it is an effect. It doesn't spiral nor does it run in a straight line - it is not a physical thing. But, no particular orientation of the spine will stop a rod from twisting and torqueing under load. You've got to get the guides on the bottom of the rod in order to get 100% rock solid stability.

Chances are the first guide will be ~ 24 inches forward of the
upper reel hood. Guides can be placed at 0, 60, 120, 180 degrees
(or 360, 300, 240, 180 degrees). Or your own scheme for your rod's
transition zone, based on your readings & rod design. All of the guides
forward of the transition zone toward the tip are under the rod,
just like a spinning rod. ... That's the basics. -Cliff Hall-
