On mine I put wrap of Gudebrod Butt wind of about 3/4 inch and then apply two coats of low build epoxy.I dont care for the shiney look so I then scuff it with grey a scotch-brite pad to take out the luster.

You can wrap ~ 0.5 - 1.0 inch band of thread or light twine as whipping to secure the tape's spiraling end from unraveling. Whether to seal with thread finish / epoxy or not, that's up to you. If there will be no formed grip between the end of the tape and the reel seat (what kind are you using?), you may want to layer / step this thread in such a way as to form a smooth butt joint of the same diameter between the body of the reel seat and the security whipping over the end of your cork tape. ... I hope I understood your question correctly and that this answer makes sense. - Cliff Hall.

Do a wrap to finish it off, coat with finish then a short piece (1") of Shrink-Wrap over bottom of reelseat and end of tape. have done this on three rods Works Great
