I am planning on making a micro-lite spin rod for panfish and 4 lb test. Which blank is the lightest and most sensitive? I'm looking to keep it small too. 4' 6" to 5' max...will be using it in the small confines of a canoe. What are the popular recommendations? Re: which blank to use?

Thomas, St. Croix 2S56ULM should be right on the mark for this application. It's 4'6" and ultralight spin graphite blank in black satin finish. Very reasonalby priced. Rich Garbowski Richard's Rod & Reel Re: which blank to use?

i also considered taking a 5'6" or 6' blank, cutting it down and adding a fighting butt for look and weight balance. Any thoughts on that?? Re: which blank to use?

The lightest blanks might be a 2 or 3 wt 1 piece fly blank (.6 oz). The lightest and most sensitive maybe the Loomis S6010IMX. REC titanium spinning guides would keep it light and durable. Keep the rest to a bare minimum and as short as possible. Re: which blank to use?

Thomas. I don't get cutting the blank and then adding a fighting butt. The short rod length will make this rod way butt heavy. You can make the rear handle longer if you want to change the balance. I would suggest a Tennessee handle for best balance. Jann's makes one with graphite slip rings. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
