Guide Spacing

I am using the fugi titanium concept guides for the first time on a 7" casting rod. In order to keep the line off the rod while under a heavy load(set the drag on the reel like I would have it set and applied downward pressure until the drag goes off is what I call heavy load), I have had to use 10 guides. Does that sound like to many. Should I just accept some line touching the rod in order to reduce the number to 9. The Blank is A GLX Gloomis and I don't want to sacrifice performance by putting too many guides. I have always used spacing charts in the past but want to get away from them and use what is right. I read about the load test to figure out spacing but it didn't say how much pressure to apply on the road. Any suggestions.

Read the article on guide static guide spacing in the online library here on this site. Using more but smaller and lighter guides won't hurt your GLX performance. Just keep them as small and light as you can and I doubt one more guide will change anything performance wise. 10 sounds about right to me.

If it takes 10 then it takes 10 nothing you can do about it. Definatly do not sacrifice the blank. Why not spiral wrap it and then you dont have to worry.

With the new concept guides you well always have more guides than the mass-produced rods. When doing a guide static test you well find even with a normal guide set up you well also use more guides.

My suggestion would also go with a spiral wrap. You can get away with less guides sometimes with this. Then you don't have to worry at all with the line touching the blank.
