I am going to reguide an older rod but this is all new to me. I will be replacing snake guides with new single foots. I started to remove one of the old guides and by starting a loose thread was able to unravel the remainder. after all of the thread is removed, there is a ridge of clear varnish or epoxy left with a small gold ring underneath after the guide wrap. I think the gold ring is painted on. Is there any way to remove this ridge of epoxy without doing damage to the blank? Also, because I am going from snake to single foot, one will be able to see where the other foot of the snake was. I realize I may not be able to hide this completely but any suggestions on how to make it less obvious? Thanks Re: epoxy removal

Yes gently warm the epoxy with a hair dryer or very small heat gun just enough that you can remove the epoxy with your thumb nail. Re: epoxy removal

After you remove the guides and epoxy, you may want to apply a very thin coat of permagloss with your fingertips or a coffee filter to the entire rod. It will add back a new rod glossy look if that's what it had before. You can get details with a search for permagloss. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
