Re: Rod broken by UPS, advice needed

Ken, thanks for your advice and it will be followed as I continue thru the process. I actually am glad that it occured on Friday and I've had almost 2 days to reflect. This time has given me enough time to get my head back on and quit jumping up and down. As Tom stated earlier, it gives me the opportunity to build another rod, which is a good thing indeed. I do appreciate everyone's insights.

More input:

Every claim I've made has been paid surprisingly fast, although
I believe UPS hires a gorilla to jump up and down on the packages!

First, ALWAYS insure for the FULL retail price, even if you give the customer a discount. The pack the rod for WAR. About all they can do then is run the tube over with the truck.

IF it still gets damaged, get the BUYER to initialize the claim. Since they have the receipt as the value, along with the insured amount you set, there should be no hassles. At least I haven't had any in 3-4 claims.

FedEX Ground has given me outstanding service at great rates. One damaged package (minor!) and they paid full insurance and let me keep the package. Didn't say a word, just got a check two weeks later. I'm sold!
