guides and braided lines

Good morning everyone, Hi Tom

A quick question.

what is the minimum type guide to use on rods that will see braided line use IE spider wire ...

Im building some spin rods for myself and others and not sure what to use.

I know SIC is the top choice and Ill use those on my rods but others may not want to spend the $$ on sic or may want a colored ring.

so disregarding SIC would alconites and all the ziconia guides fair well with braided line use??

after all Most factory rods are hyloy or alum oxide.

many thanks "John"

If memory serves me, on the Fuji line, they recommend Alconites or better for braid.

I've fished braid with Hardloy for years with no problems.

For me, it took a while until I stoped breaking rods on braid. Guides were never a problem.

I would use Alconites myself. Only place I have seen a problem with Hardloy really in in the tip. Thats what I have replaced the most if a guy uses braid.

John,

I have a light spinning rod equipped with PacBay Hialoy guides. I use it for last 2 years and, in the most cases, with braid and in pretty muddy waters. Yet have no problems with guides' tear and wear.

Have yet to see a problem with guides and braided line...just make sure you are using a line lbs that fall within the rods rating and not the line dia.

Such as rod rated for 15 lbs, and line rated @ 30 lbs with a 12 lb dia. With this setup the rod is overlined.

Regards

I use alcionites on nearly all of my rods. Never had one let me down yet and I fish braid lines almost exclusively.

Cheers

Andy
