Thread tension on unfinished wraps

I just found out that the woman is meeting her friends out tonight. I would love to work on my 10ft 8wt, but need to wrap and finish the entire rod so that's not happening. However, I have a Forecast 4pc. 7.5ft 4wt that I have all of the guides, ferrules, and tip wrapped on. I just need to do a quick wrap above the winding check and inscripton and apply the first coat of finish. My question is, is it possible for the thread tension on wrapped guides to lessen over time. I wrapped the guides about 2 months ago and was wondering if the tension might have released at all. I've never had to wait any amount of time between wrapping and finishing a rod before. Thanks, Lou Re: Thread tension on unfinished wraps

I doubt it. Unless you take it past a certain point (tension-wise) I don't think you'll find it unlike a very resilient rubber band. I think you may be worrying over something that you needn't worry over. ..................... Re: Thread tension on unfinished wraps

I figured that. But, never encountered this in my 4ys of building so better safe than sorry. I definitely don't go overboard on my wrapping tension. Thanks Tom. Re: Thread tension on unfinished wraps

Larry.......nah. I don't hide any of my rods. I just tell her to buy as many shoes as she needs!! Works out well, although I'm sure she is way up on me financially. Lou Re: Thread tension on unfinished wraps

I would suggest to coat the guides after they are wrapped. This way you do not wait a long time, as you move the rod around wrap other things , the thread could get damaged. This way coated it is one less thing to worry about Re: Thread tension on unfinished wraps

I agree with Bill. When I finish wrapping a rod I give it a quick coat of PermaGloss to assure the wrapping is stable until I am ready to apply an epoxy coat. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
