straight guides alignment

I know there must be a better way to align guides rather than "eye balling" or looking straight down on the rod. Can someone give me a good method for this? I would appreciate it.

Thanks

If you have a Clemens lathe or Renzetti, buy the laser alignment tool. If not, you can eyeball with the guides down and adjust til equal amounts of the guides are showing on both sides of the blank. Another method is use a small diameter blank and run it through the guides until it bottoms out on the tip section guides. Then adjust till the two blanks are in line with one another. (this can be achieved with a dowel rod, but with the lack of taper makes it not as efficient)

I use a piece of green Fireline and tape one end on my reel seat and the other on the tip top. I do this after the guides are on and then it is easy to adjust the guides to line up correctly. I just line them up as close as I can before wrapping.

I use the green Fireline because it is so easy to see.
