How much tension is needed to apply the guide to the blank? I have built them with less tension and conversley with signifigant tension. What I have found is less is neater but then i second guess if they are tight enough. How about metallic thread? Butt wraps? This seems like a silly question from me because I have been building for a while but would like the astounding compound knowlege of this board to put my fears at ease. Thanks George Re: thread tension

Nobody has ever put an exact figure on that sort of thing. The rule of thumb is that should be wrapped snug but not tight and after wrapping you should be able to move or shift the guides slightly with firm pressure. If you can't budge them then you have wrapped too tightly. If they shift and squirm with even the least amount of pressure they are probably too loose.
