I'd like to build a 9' spinning salmon rod, but it needs to be travel-friendly and I can't find any 3- or 4-piece spinning/casting blanks. But I CAN find multi-piece fly blanks, including some in the heavier line sizes. What do you experts think about building a 12-20# spinning rod for salmon on a 10- or 12-weight travel fly blank? Any recommendations on specific blanks? Thanks in advance, Tom Re: Fly rod blanks for spinning

Tom, George Roth from Idaho (posts on other boards as "Ballou") has an article on his web site about exactly this subject. I don't have the URL of his website at my fingertips, but you might drop him a note at groth@ruralnetwork.net. Tell him I told you to contact him. Re: Fly rod blanks for spinning

If you find out the URL, can you please post it here? I don't know if the gentleman wants to get bombarded with a bunch of e-mails. Thanks! Dave Re: Fly rod blanks for spinning/suggestions

Rich, Thanks for the recommendations. You think the 10-weight will be stout enough then? (I don't know much about fly-fishing, so my only point of comparison was the butt & tip diameters, plus the total weight of the blank . . . from this it seemed 10-weight fly rods might be a little 'light' ). Jim and Dave, I've emailed the guy, and I'll post a reply if I get one. Thanks everyone for the advice! This site is a wonderful resource. Re: Fly rod blanks for spinning/suggestions

Hi Rich, Then what do you suggest maybe a 8 wt. or 9wt. blank for a 8-12 lbs. range? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
