My dad wants me to build him a surf rod with a white tip. The complete rods are available in sports authority and other sporting goods. Does anyone know who sells these blanks? I would really appreciate the input! Thanks, ~Don~ Why not do it yourself?

Don, Do the paint job on your own. It's only the tip and a small task. This tipping can also be done with ice fishing rods in bright orange. just a thought. Rich Solyrich Custom Rods Re: Why not do it yourself?

What kind of paint would I use?? I would however prefer to use an all ready painted 12 foot blank. Thanx, ~Don~ Re: Why not do it yourself?

Shakespeare Ugly Stiks (I don't remember the blank #) - the blank is an unfinished black that ends in a solid fiberglass tip that is clear/white, tip size is about a #8. I used to build quite a few for surfcasting pluggers down here on the rocks in Rhode Island. Re: Why not do it yourself?

Don, Steve's method is a good one. Not sure you'll need color preserver, also would be better to avoid the standard two part epoxy finishes as they might peel in time. Might be better to spray paint alone, or use a varnish type product like perma gloss in a very thin coat over the paint? The idea mentioned about the glass tipped blanks is that they will add extra weight being solid, and also they are not really white-white if they are the blanks I am thinking of.
