Will someone please let me know what is necessary to shape EVA grips? In particular, what lathe and the required tools.
Thanks,
Gary...

Use power if you have it, speed if you don't. A woodworking lathe is ideal and you can take roughing cuts with a Stanley SurForm file and then work through a few grades of drywall sanding screen. Don't go too far with the SurForm though, or you'll never take out all the pits and holes it leaves. It is very aggressive and cuts quickly.

35 grit sandpaper the kind that is used on flat file[auto body tool]
works great. When you get close to you desired OD then move up to an 80 or 100, finish up with 220 of finer.

One of the easiest ways I've run across to shape EVA grips is to use a portable 1" belt sander while its turning on the lathe. I tried one the other day and it only takes a couple of minutes to finish the grip. You can use a finer belt than you would think, which keeps you with a smooth finish while removing material quickly.
