Refinishing and underwraps

I have a few Shimano extra heavy trolling rods that a charter guy gave me that are in very poor condition. All the guides need rewraping and or replaced, and the finish is sad looking also.I'm going to remove the old finish and paint or color on it then paint with Testors spray enamel. The can reads that it will work on fabric, paper, leather, plastic
and other surfaces. Is this ok? Then I will dip in varathane 900. My
main question is that the rods had only a single wrap on all the guides
and I would like to do an underwrap on all the guides to give it a custom look.Is there any problems with what I'm going to do? I'm new
to all this so I could use all the advice I can get on refinishing and underwraping.

Butch,

There is a ton of info on this sort of thing so you could do a search of this site and likely find all sorts of info on blank refinishing. I'm sure others will weigh in with their ideas as well.

I have done similar work - painting and then finishing with a clear gloss spray urethane and then rewrapping, after sufficient drying time is allowed.

I do want to mention that as you did not leave your email address, it is likely that this post will be removed very shortly. In the future make sure you fill in all the fields in order to ensure that you post will "stick". Thanks.
