I read at least a couple of mentions of synthetic cork in rodbuilders magazine the past year or so.
What are the various brands/typees of synthetic cork? Looking for lightweight material that I can shape butt cap out of that weight about the same as cork but is more abrasion resistant. I already know about Thorne Bros' syncork but would like to have alternatives to see what's out there.

34. rail rod grips

(Info: Rail rod is used to fight a large fish ie Yellowfin Tuna around 200lbs using the rail of the long range boat instead of the stand up harness.) I need at least 1 1/2" diameter 1 3/8" will do but would like the 1 1/2" in order to turn down. I got some rail grips from Merri

I came accross someone advertising Synthetic Cork and pumping it as better because it has a grippier surface. Is there such a thing, or is it the cork colored EVA or corkalon I have seen on cheap rods?

36. Syncork????????
Have anyone built handles using "syncork" that is available from Thorne Brothers in Fridley, MN.
I talked to the chemist who holds the patent on the process. He has apparently came up with a process that is using expanded resin plastic to make foam rings, that glue like cork, machine like cork, and are about 10% lighter than typical cork.
Of course, since it is man made and inject
