Bought a high end blank listed at 1.94 oz., weighs 2.15 oz. Sounds close to me. Any thoughts?

I've never done a CCS test on a rod. I think I understand the concept fairly well and am sold on its value to comparing one rod blank to another in terms of IP and AA.. I want to sit at the feet of my rod board gurus and learn how you do it accurately so I can shorten my learning curve. (Insert grasshopper emoji here) Is there a simple way to get consistent results? And what if two of the s

As the title implies, I am interested in learning more about the significance of the “tone” an individual blank emits when struck or tapped on its side or dropped on its butt. It is very intriguing to me after learning about it a few months ago here on this site; and it has been mentioned a few times since. Apparently it is nothing new = some responding veterans claim to have been using the proce

Having built two fly rods recently, a 9 ft. 6 wt and a 9 ft 5 wt., I tried both with NOS SA Mastery GPX fly lines I had purchased a few years ago and had not yet used. Wow, I found the lines to be so aggreisve in their weight forward, half-size heavy taper that I felt like I had an anvil on the end of the line. The 6 weiight is a Baston Eternity2, so a pretty fast, high-quality graphite rod. I

Just received a NFC X Ray SJ703 Wednesday 4-22 which I ordered on 4-5. Very impressed with the product and quick delivery from WA to NC with everything going on. I was very glad to give NFC another chance after a not so great experience about 2 years ago. Whatever Aleks and his team is doing I say keep up the good work. Glad to buy quality products made in the USA which is getting more difficult

My brain is getting very old. I feel a bit dense this morning. Pardon me.....but am I missing something here? I have looked at Dr. Bills fly line analyzer. One needs to build his scale I suppose. But there is a lot of data available. Is there some reason I cannot just weight the first 30' of a fly line and correlate it to his charts and guestimate what ERN it would be good for? I have a scale tha

When I was at the Expo this past February, I bought a CTS fly rod and some Crystal Coat rod finish to try. Even though it has the same name, it is not the crystal coat finish once sold by Clemens. The CTS Crystal Coat is a two part finish that is absolutely water clear without any hint of yellowing, and it is supposed to stay water clear. Because this is a very new product that most of you have

I have read a bit about guys finishing the kr guide train with minimas. on the 16h - 8h - 5.5m - 5kt guide train are the kts replaced if I wanted to replace the kt's with minima to reduce weight and cost am I correct in thinking I want the F frame minimas since they are the same height as the kts?

What's the down and dirty on this stuff? What's the best out there? Using Pro-Kote but is there something better. Especially for threads as Pro Kote does get a lot of bubbles in it. Just takes a little extra time is all. Anything that is a quick cure and not 8 hours?

I'm considering a Point Blank build for myself. How do the ratings compare to reality? I know a St Croix MH is a different animal than, say, a Loomis MH. Just using those examples as a basis for comparison. I don't pay much attention to power ratings, knowing the arbitrary nature of such ratings. Looking at the PB701MF and PB701MHF. Which one would be closest to the the classic 1/4-3/4oz, 10

Does anybody know if there is any general rule of thumb on how much tension to put on the tip-top when trying to align guide placement, so as to avoid the line from touching the blank? I use an inline digital scale to measure the the tension from the tip to a heavy weight. My rods, for example, are generally 7 to 7-1/2 ft baitcasters, med-fast action designed for fish in the 3 to 12 lb class. But

How much weight difference is there between a rod with minimal wraps/decorations/finish coats and the same rod with long/decorative wraps and two or three finish coats? Also, how much difference between the actions of these two rods can be physically measured? Function and appearance are often in opposition, but how much function is actually lost, percentage-wise?

Hello all! I am a new member and first-time poster. I just entered the rod building game so I am going to have a TON of questions I'm sure, lol. I've already had the majority of my early questions answered here just by searching these forums. One question I had that I couldn't quite get a clear answer on here was in regards to weighing a blank. I am going to be building fly rods exclusively,

To get a balanced spinning outfit you need a digital spring scale [$5.33 on line] solidly anchored on one end and tied to the tip-top of your rod with 20# test line. Pull on the rod as hard as you dare without breaking it and record this maximum tension. The line you use with this rod should test no more than twice this maximum tension and the reel you use does not need to be able to exert more

Wondering if anyone has the discontinued Lamiglas LSJ841 blank that you can weigh on a digital scale? I'm wondering what that particular blank weight. It's a 7 footer. Thanks in advance for any help.

Had an interesting fisheye problem yesterday. On two new wraps epoxy developed fisheyes.Never been a problem before.I realised that the only thing I had changed was to use 2 new syringes.I had purchased a whole bunch of new syringes and on checking the plunger inside the tube I found a coating of some sort of lubricant that was the problem. So Beware and wash out new syringes.

I've used the CCS system for years. But, embarrassingly haven't done any CCF tests. So, today I decided I would give it a try. Went well overall. However, I tested an dancraft GXT that came up with a CCF of 85. Then I took the off the tip and wrapped on a single foot guide, which when weighed on my digital scale is 1/2 the weight of the tip. So, I assumed a bit of an increase in the CCF numb

I've got a question about fly rod tip tops. I got a digital scale early last year and began weighing guides & tops. Mainly to just satisfy some curiosity. What I found was that the standard stainless steel, wire fly tip weighs close to twice that of the last running guide before the tip. That applies to snake, single foot and Minimas & other ringed guides & tips. So, we're trying to

Hey guys so I am hoping someone can help me out with this blank. I do not have a way to get my hands on it. I was thinking about going with another company for this rod, but I also want opinions on this blank. I am looking for a rod to throw texas rigs into laydowns. The weight is 3/16 with usually 7inch plastics. I have the 7'2 M Immortal, but this amount of weight does not load that rod very we

I'm wondering if anyone has any info concerning the weights of some of Fuji's different style guides. I'm thinking I've seen some posts from people who have weighed guides. Unfortunately, the guys at Anglers Resources don't have any weight charts. I'm going through a bunch of components I've accumulated over the years and since these guides aren't in any packaging or anything, I can't tell exa

I am looking for the most beautiful technique for my custom rod. I was looking at snakeskin and feathers but not sure I want to go that way now. Any ideas would be appreciated and the names of a few great builders in Florida. I live in Ft Myers but am willing to travel a little bit for that one of a kind rod. Thanks for the help.

I have a metallic wrap that remains a bit tacky after 2 days of finish applied to it while my nylon wraps are nice and smooth. Is There anything special that I'm suppose to do for metallic wraps? I've applied a second coat to all my wraps again and there's the same issue with the one metallic wrap. Also, for situations such as this, do I add a second coat to eliminate tacky finishes or is th

So i hope this will be more brief than past threads. I am painting blanks right now and they are coming out very nice. Except i just got home and one blank i painted, which i wrapped two guides on, is having problems. The paint right next to the the wraps on the left of them is warped looking. It looks like is was pushed. it is about 3 or 4 'waves" like an accordion. very strange indeed. any

I have a rod where my epoxy thread finish didnt cure completely and remains tacky. I carefully and painstakingly applied a second coat. This coat has not cured well either, but after a week it seems better. Do you think that this will cure over time, or, will it always be just so slightly tacky. The finish seems to be just a tiny bit sticky, where you can feel your finger drag a little bit
