All black trimmed lightly with gold. Generally I will not use white on guide wraps so that corrosion will not easily show, underwraps I'll use any color.

Best thing to do is use a first "sealing" coat of finish to seal the thread. This coat must be thin enough to hold no bubbles under surface tension - ie., the finish must not pool up on the surface of the thread to form a shiny coat. Reason: if the coat of finish is not there bubbles will not be trapped.

No, you're not stuck with it. Reel seats are inexpensive, cut it off and install another. The cost of a reel seat is worth the peace of mind you'll have knowing that everything is right.
BTW, forget trying to boil the reel seat in water to remove it. Rod bond cures like concrete. It will not loosen.

I have had this happen to me, and this is what tempered the advice I gave on a previous post on this topic.
It is easy to lift a sliver of material off the blank. In one instance I epoxied the graphite sliver back on and wrapped it tightly with thread. Some time later I removed the thread and lightly sanded the area smooth - repair is invisible under a guide underwrap and has held fine up ove

The problems with color preserver are well documented. The problem you are experiencing is not new, many others, including me, have had similar experiences. I stopped using the stuff years ago, it has no place in the rods I build anymore because of the many problems associated with it....
