I second what roger posted previously I have a switch rigged up to my power wrapper that allows me to turn the rod at a faster Rpm without holding the foot pedal down but when finished I switch over to a low RPM motor to dry overnight, works every time.

the hot setup for me seems to be a small hand held power grinder from a beauty shop.used in pedicures It is a variable speed and you can smooth the top and sides to eliminate the problem you are having. For years I have used a polishing wheel on my stationary shop grinder which does a good job but it gets a little hairy when trying to grind down the feet on really small guides, but with the po

Just make sure there is a piwce of blank inside where you are wrapping, you won't believe how much pressure wrapping puts on the blank. Personally I would go a little more than i.5 inches as this will be a critical part of the blank especially with a big tuna on the other end. Stand up tuna fishing is really fun when you finally get one of them hooked..

On a small dia. rod a singlefoot fly rod guide would work and look almost natural an d not be too bulky looking.

Snap -On tools sells a very similar set of digital calipers for only a few dollars more. Probably a jap manufacture but they are quality tools and come with exxtra batteries. they seem to be accurate enough for our kind of work.

I realize this has been covered before but after an extensive search turned up nothing to answer the questions that I had as to type of paint to use and brand I turned to the forum. These two rods will be on my boat therefore I do not need a rockstar finish but something that is functional.

The routing of the thread is pretty straight forward. I think what you are looking for is how the thread comes off the spool. I have found that if you look at the spool from the spool side once mounted in the thread carriage that the thread flows off the spool a little smoother if it comes from the spool bottom which would be clockwise and then thru the guides out to the rod. Sorry if this just

Unfortunately this is the first expo that I have missed in 5 years. Having recently retired I just couldn;t justify spending the gas and lodging and not eating for a month. The motel prices seem to be way out of control through my tainted retirement eyes.Guess I'll have to get used to poverty and cutting back on essentials. I will start saving for 2105 next week. There goes all my supplies for th

I am proud as a participant on this forum to see so many caring individuals. Anything that we as a group can do to help our heroes is always much appreciated. The attitude in this country is much different than when I returned in 1971. Back then we had to sneak through the airport in civilian clothes to not be singled out, but that was in another era. We now honor those that go in harm's way to p

I am doing a favor for a friend with a very old 3 piece bamboo fly rod. He is in need of a few guides to be rewrapped. I don't know what type of thread to use(it is a beige color) and once wrapped do I finish the wraps as I would on a new rod with CP and flex coat ? Is there a varnish type sealer that was used back then or something else? He is not interested in restoring the rod to original bu

Does anyone have any tricks for the easy installation of micro guides on a typical ultralight. On small micros it is hard enough to hold the guide in one piace, but due to thread tension it tends to distort the rod when getting toward the tip section. I have thought about installing a second blank inside the original rod to make stiffer. It just seems like an extra amount of work. Come on guys, g

If built and stress tested properly you will find that most true stand up blanks will not have enough open blank to put anything between a long foregrip and the irst stripper guide. The first guide is usually started just after the foregrip leaving little or to no space to put a decorative wrap.Good luck.

Experience is the best teacher. I was fortunate as I fished exclusively fresh water when I was growing up(not that I have yet)and I have years of experience fishing small native trout streams in Pa. bot with ultra lite and fly rods. That information has been priceless when asked to build a small stream rod. Now that I own and run my own charter boat(since 1979) I have had years of offshore fishin

Tom, My expo comments were not meant to be criticism as I thnk th Expo was set up about as good as it could be. I really enjoyed not having to walk too far to see all the great vendors. It seemed they were prettty well situated in close proximity to each other. However you changed the aisle it was great, hopefully you can keep the same floor plan for next year. Thanks for another great ev

I just wanted to put my 2 cents in about last weekend. When I first walked in to the exhibition hall my first reaction was that it was smaller than years past as everything seemed to be condensed. But it took me a few laps up and down the aisle to realize what had taken place. All of the cream of the crop was centrally located and not spread out making it much easier to see everyone. For me with

As I walked around the Showplace I was surprised and pleased to see the amount of women builders on the floor. I have been trying to teach my other half to attempt some builds. She is constantly in my shop checking out my new creations and now wants to try her hand at it. I'm just a little surprised to see the other side in a male dominated sport.

Has anyone hd the same experience that has happened to me? I have a Renzetti lathe with a typical 110 v. turning motor that is controlled thru a sewing machine foot pedal. For some reason after a long spell of no use it now spins in the opposite direction that it always turned. I did not change any wiring but I did not think it could run in the opposite direction by itself. Any help would be app

If you would e-mail me at Mblues01@aol.com to discuss payment I would appreciate it and also what area are you from as I would pick them up if within a reasonable distanc

Does anyone know if there is a sponsor that would have any Shakespear Ugly stick stand up blanks in the 50-80 lb. class. I started to look but Shakespear has gone out of the blank business. You can call me @215-620-9775 with any information and help. Thanks

In my opinion PC-7 although unbelievably strong is too much of a paste to get complete coverage when installing reel seats. I like an epoxy that flows a little more to avoid pockets of no coverage.Mail order epoxy from our sponsors would work great. If unsure what to use a phone call will help you get the right stuff.

On most rods 24-25 inches is usually a good starting place, depending on the stripper guide size. Spinning rods are not as critical as bait casting. Usually a good starting point though.
