541. Re: Permagloss
From what I understand Permagloss uses a product called Zileen (spelling??) to thin it. I attempted something similar and had the same problem when I called the company they told me that they have not found anyting that it would not eat off or soften. They told me if I find something to let them know. For what it is worth.

543. best choice for a CP
I have not used a Color Preserver before but am in need of one now for both thread and for feather inlays. I have read many threads here about one or the other.
Does it matter if I use one brand of CP and another brand of finish? Is one better than another in regard to feather inlay?
Thanks much!

If you are building a float rod look to the Loomis GLX float rod as they all have the recoil guides and handle you speak of. And yes the recoil guides work well in the ice. They ice up the same but you can just bend them and break it off without fear of damaging the guides. I have used mine in sub freezing for years with no problem.

No not yet, I want to make my own handle but need to get the lathe in place first so there will be alittel time before the whole thing goes together. I do agree with you and they are sending me a new catalog so I can put it all together. I am still undecided on how I want to do it. I am looking at a slid ring type setup.

If there is an issue you can always apply a VERY small about of UV Knot Sense to the knot to form a bit of a 'ramp' if you will. I will do this with my fly leaders as I normally tie my own and blood knoting 25lb mono can cause a larger knot. I know this does not fix your problem but it you run into an issue onece it is built give it a try.

I live in the great lakes and have been fishing steelhead for 15 years now. If he is float fishing with 6lb he will want a nice full flex to protect that tippet. I had built a rainshadow 10ft 5wt 3pc rod a few years ago (fly rod) and it has done very well. I can land 90% of the fish here with no problem. I am not sure of the model but it was green in color if that helps.

Thanks for the help, I called the guys over at Anglers Workshop and I have 2 of the 'G-Tips" on the way. I thought I would build a pair of them for my son and his cousin. For both with delivery it was less than even the most inexpensive blank! Thanks again for the help.

I am looking for an ultra light rod blank and am having trouble locating one that small. I would like to build a very light rod for my son as a bluegill rod. Something in the 4-4.5' range and 1-4lb line weight. I was wondering if I could cut back a longer rod (9ft 4wt fly rod upper half) or maybe use the top half of a longer more limber rod. He is only 4yrs old so a 5-6' will be a little tough to

Sorry, 8690 model. But for 46.00 can you turn down the hobby one for doing cork? Maybe I should go that route first to get a few under my belt. Anyone like the hobby lathe for cork only? I have seen a few people say it works for them. Thanks

I like the grizzle one from what I have seen, anyone care to comment on it? How it works worth pricking one up? Thanks for all the information.

I am looking at making some custom spey grips and am in need of a lathe now. I am torn between buying a cheap one from somewhere like harbor frieght for 100.00 or so or making my own. I have a small 1550 rpm motor from a rock tumbleing kit that I think may work but I will have to find a way to 'build it'
Question is am I better off picking one up or making my own. I do not want to spend as much

553. New to board
I just wanted to thank you for the information I have gathered over the last few weeks. I have been following the forum and finally joined last night.
I just finished my first build, a small and simple 6' 2/3 wt.
I have, like many of you I'm sure did when you started, BIG Dreams.
