All, Can I directly put down the parafin wax and then glue up the cork on the mandrill?

I would like to shape cork on my lathe using a mandrill. I have a 1/4" rod ready to go and the cork rings I need. My questions are the following: 1. How do I prep the rod so the rings don't stick when I apply the epoxy to the rings? 2. Should the rings be very, very snug on the rod or slide on easily? 3. What lathe speed is recommended? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

If you give it back to them, the family and their relatives could always look back on the kindness of your deed and remember it as a good thing that happened during a terrible time. That's worth more than anything you will receive in terms of payment. Follow the right path and let your heart be your guide. Just my .02.

I've been having a problem lately wrapping guides on the tips of rods. For some reason they seem to be coming loose - loose enough to cause the guide to slip until I have the other side tied on (these are snake guides). To get over the issue in the near term I've resorted to a cover of CP but is there a better way? I normally do 7-8 wraps of thread before I pull the thread through to finish.

You know it's a bad day when you pull this manuever... I was in a bit of a rush to finish a rod for a friend of mine late last night. Instead of using my rod wrap finish on a weave that took me six hours to complete I had a brain cramp, grabbed my 5 minute epoxy and went at it. Needless to say it didn't go well. I scraped off the epoxy as fast as I could but to no avail. I am now a very unha

Since I will not be able to make it to the Rod Expo in 2009 (I'm in Minnesota) will there be a way to get the handouts or any other material from the show even from other presenters? It would be great to be there but it's not in the cards right now.

Ok. I admit it. I can't pick out colors to save my life. I'm building a 9' fly rod with a St. Croix SC V blank. It's listed as a "Gloss Gallatin Green". I need help choosing complimentary thread colors for the guides (I'm using silver trim bands or ?) and a butt wrap where there will be a grouse feather inlay. The seat is gun metal gray and I'm using a cork handle. I'm not opposed to us

I use a St. Croix SC III 6.6/ft 2 piece UL. It's rated 1/32 to 3/16 but I have no problem with a 1/4 oz jig or topwater for that matter when i use it for Smallies

Does anyone have experience with both Visual Weave and @#$%&? Which was easiest to use and set up? Which gave the best results? I'm considering the purchase of one of the two. Any help I receive is very much appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

I'm new to the rod building game but one of the things I would like to try is weaving a design for the butt wrap. One of the terms I hear used often is "left list". What is this and how is it used in weaving. I apologize if this is a basic question but like i said I'm still learning. Thanks for your responses in advance.

I'm new to rod building and just wanted to say hello to all of you. I've built two fly rods with good results but need to step up my abilities to build better rods. I look forward to learning as much as I can here and hope you can put up with some of my beginner questions. Thank you ahead of time for all of your help. Mark
