Get a can of Krylon Crystal Clear acrylic spray. Spray a light coat after your inscription has dried from about 10 inches away, it doesn't take much, and let it dry about an hour before applying your finish and you won't have any problem with smearing.

The Grizzly hobby lathe is good for cork handles. Used to be $39.95 but it the new catalog is $44.95 without the drill. If you don't have a 1/2" variable speed drill Grizzly has one for $39.95.

I think you will find that spar urethane will not darken like regular varnish, it contains uv absorbers. I have wood signs that have been outdoors for over 3 years that look like new. I also did some test wraps on wooden dowels that have been outside in the sun, snow and rain for almost a year and they have not faded or gotten darker. Here in Central Oregon the temp. ranges from below zero in the

I have switched from epoxy to using Minwax spar urethane on all the fly rods I build now. It does take a few extra coats but the ease of use, just open the can and put it on, imo far outweighs the pain of measuring and mixing epoxy. Now I have only one finish for both reel seat inserts and wraps an feather inlays.

I hear that Cortland now is offering some fly lines in 1/2 sizes, ie 3wt or 31/2wt. This seems like overkill to me.

You can also use elastic thread that can be found at any store that sells sewing stuff. Cut of s short piece and tie the guide on and then touch it with a razor blade after you have wrapped up the guide foot a ways and it comes right off.

402. Re: Beginner
Check out the library above, there is a article by Greg Pennel entitled "The Easy To Build Rod Wrapping Jig". I built my first rod wrapper out of scrap lumber similar to the one in the article for about $15.00 and used it for quite a few rods.
I now have a Sully's wrapper and really like it. If you are going to be building a lot of rods the Sully's is well worth the money.

I notice that when logged in and you read a message marked "new" that if you use the back button on your browser to return to the message page "new" does not go away. You have click on "Goto: Forum List" for it to show as read.
Don't know if it is just my browser or not, anyone else found this to be the case?

I think you will find you only really need one stipper. I only use one #12 DF stripper then a #8 sf and the balance #6 sf on 4,5,and 6 wt fly rods. Tape them on good with blue masking tape and then go out in the yard and make a few test casts and adjust the spacing if required.

When you register here there is really no information required than is any different than when you post without registration, your name and email address is required in both instances. What you get are more options which make navigation easier. I like it.
A lot of of other boards where people us nicknames you never know who you are talking to. There is also a lot of silly posts and flaming on

I'm with Don. I only use Permagloss or spar urethane now. Granted it may take an extra coat or two, but no mixing, just open the can or bottle and go for it. Have not tried Klass Kote yet but have some on order.

I like the registration option. When you are logged in the forum list shows which subjects have "New" posts. Also I like the feature which allow the user to change the time to their local time zone.
The only change might be helpful for some of older folks with tired eyes would be the font and background color.
All and all even without any changes it is a great site and Tom deserv
