Mike, Your comment on arm length is a home run-I am 5'-6". My rod with the too-long butt might have been OK for you. I know from exp. that if that a balance pt. near the reel does make for heightened sens. when fishing lures like plastic worms as opposed to cranking against a diving plug where a balanced feel is impossible. Once again, very few hard and fast rules. What works for

Before you add weight to a rod consider moving the reel seat fwd. The point of using a quality graphite blank is to keep the finished product as light and as sensitive as possible. Moving the real seat fwd changes the fulcrum point, effectively making the tip of the rod feel lighter. Temporarily attach the your components(guides,reel seat, grips,etc.) then position the reel in different spots
