I found a 5 set of RoseArt ultra fine point metallic permanent felt tip markers at Wal-Mart for a few $. They have the ultra fine point on one end and the fine point on the other. Colors are silver, gold, green, blue, and purple. It wipes off with a little scrubbing with alcohol, but dries almost instantly and can be coated with finish without wiping off. If you can't find these then look at a cr

One of the main things I have adapted for fishing from my kayak is grip length. For spinning rods for use from my kayak I've found I prefer a 7" rear cork grip where from a boat I prefer a slightly longer 9'" rear grip. The same goes for casting rods only 6" is the usual length for use from my kayak. Other than that my rods for kayak fishing are pretty much about the same as all my

That's the same thing I was thinking Billy. I planned to build it anyway, but thought a little reassurance that it won't fail as soon as I bow up into a nice grouper would be nice. It's good to hear you've used them on several heavy rods with success. I plan to underwrap and double overwrap with A thread to help protect the graphite blank. This rod is intended for use as a bottom rod here in the

35. Fuji LBSG guides
I was wondering what ya'lls opinion is on the maximum line rating Fuji's SiC single foot boat rod guides can handle. I plan on using them in a spiral wrap configuration with the transition guides being double foot, either LRSG's or USG's. I'm really just playing around. Want to see how light I can build an 80# stand-up bottom combo. I plan on using a Graphite USA Dragon blank, Fuji deluxe heavy d

It's a little bit heavier than some of the graphite Lamiglass, but take a look at the Rainshadow SW1087 or SU1087. I have built on a couple of SW1089's and they turned out very nice. The one's I built on were the old Rainshadow blanks, but from what I have seen of the new ones they are just as good or better than the old.

Here's another place that has a good deal on a nice digital caliper. I have three of these and all work very well. They have very good service as well.

Take a look at a Quantum Kinetic, Catalyst, or Energy PTi 40. Depending on how much you are looking to spend, one of these three will suit your needs very well. I know a number of guys down here in Florida have been trading in their Stadics for the new Quantum reels.

It will work fine. There are several of the board sponsors over on the left that make labels. Contact one of them and have them make the label for you. Then underwrap the area like you want to and put a coat of finish over it. After the finish is dry place your label on like you want it and let it dry overnight. The next day come back and put another coat of finish or two over the label and you'l

What about that foam poster board stuff? It's probably about 1/4" thick and is pretty stiff.

Switch to denatured alcohol and it should fix most of your problem. Even 91% isopropyl alcohol burns pretty dirty.

I believe ferruled reel seats are typically used in a downlocking assembly, but I don't see any reason why you couldn't use it uplocking also. The extension with the rear grip on it would be attached to the ferrule in an uplocking configuration. If you do it uplocking then the reel seat would be attached to the end of the blank.

Personally I like a rod in the 5'6"-6' range for heavy, deep water fishing. I don't use electrics, but fish in 150-200' pretty much every trip offshore. Some people like longer rods if fishing from a party boat. I like an 8" rear grip and a 12" foregrip with a gimbal on the end. These lengths when combined with the reel seat give me a grip out to about as far as I can comfortably

I have one of the 22mm ones on the desk in front of me as I am typing this. It is basically a Fuji DPS22 reel seat with a piece of graphite glued to the inside of it to give it more strength. It also has a stainless pin fixed inside the reel seat in the middle for the ferrule to lock against. The ferrule is just like a metal ferrule only made of graphite. The blank is glued down inside it and th

Use hypalon for the replacement grip and it will be much easier. Hypalon has more stretch than EVA.

I don't know if they are the closest sponsor, but Custom Tackle Supply is in Tennessee and carries the whole line of U-40 products.

Wrap the blank with masking tape where you want to cut and then cut it with a hack saw.
